What is a SoC GDS™ evaluation kit?

From the download page, you may download a free evaluation kit for your platform allowing you to get acquainted with SoC GDS. These evaluation kits are neither slide-shows nor self-running demos. Once installed, the evaluation kits can be enabled with option specific access codes.

One legal "detail": you are free to distribute (not to sell!) these evaluation kits without any restriction, as long as you do not modify their contents. If you feel you would need a full solutions (with no limitations) for acquaintance with SoC GDS, please contact Dolphin, time-limited rental is possible.

What is SoC GDS™ Discovery?

SoC GDS Discovery is a free option of SoC GDS™ that provides the basic viewing and analyzing capabilities for GDSII layout files of any size:

The License authorizes the use of SoC GDS Discovery for any design purposes. Other commercial options of SoC GDS offer simulation of unlimited circuit sizes.

You should start by running the tutorial (available from the download page and installed with SoC GDS) which guides you through simple examples and provides miscellaneous information.

If you enter your hostid on the download forms, you will automatically receive access codes for the Discovery option of SoC GDS. Installing these access codes enables the basic viewing and analyzing capabilities of this option and enables its use for teaching or other purposes. The SoC GDS Discovery download is a complete installation of SoC GDS. Therefore, commercial access codes can also be used to enable complete usage. The downloaded installer can of course be used to update your local installation of SoC GDS.

 

What are the capabilities?

SoC GDS Discovery provides the following functionality:

  • Load multiple GDSII libraries with no size limits,
  • Use full ruler and gridding functions,
  • Display layout with unrestricted zoom functions,
  • Configure layer display attributes,
  • Use restricted hierarchy navigation,
  • Load Cadence techfiles.

Other license options of SoC GDS offer significantly enhanced viewing functionality including layer visibility and order control, full geometry and instance selection capabilities, multiple simultaneous cell display, full print capabilities, accelerated configurable rendering as well as many processing-related functions.

 

What is an Innovation Contract ?

As an alternate approach to one-shot deals, the Innovation Contract ensures regular updates with two releases per year improving the already available functions and implementing new ones. Updates are both consequent to in-house innovations but also take into account suggestions for improvements which are both expected and encouraged in the frame of the Innovation Contract to provide effective productivity gains in the users Design Chains.
 
Since most customers do not condone an excessive frequency of updates, as it would be upsetting end-users training, habits and plans, a six-month revision period seems to be optimal for the time being. It is in effect as an alternance of Spring releases and Autumn releases. Customers may however subscribe for any twelve-month period.
 
Differently from common EDA vendors, Dolphin’s philosophy is to deliver freely what is generally called maintenance. Indeed, we do not want our users to pay for what is mandatory and inherent to our EDA solutions. In that way, our users benefit, for free, from our technical support for one year including ASAP corrections of all detected bugs.

 

SoC GDS for Linux

The required hardware/software configuration is an x86 PC running RedHat Linux with 250 Mbytes of free disk space.
To install this evaluation kit, simply run the downloaded installer (.install) by starting it from a command line shell.

SoC GDS for Windows XP/Vista /7

The required hardware/software configuration is an x86 PC running Windows XP/Vista/7, with 250 Mbytes of free disk space.
To install this evaluation kit, simply run the downloaded installer (.msi) by double-clicking on the downloaded file. The installer is a standard Microsoft Installer, which allows clean uninstallation if needed, as well as network installations.
